Do you know what mark you want to leave on the world?

Do you question whether you can or will leave any mark? Well… there are many, many women who made a huge difference in their world. For some their world was small, maybe just the family or friends that they were consistently trying to encourage and love.

In Muskogee, there have been a number of women who have left their mark on the entire city because they were strong in their beliefs and what they worked for; because they would not compromise their ideals; because they were lead to serve.

There are women who because of their strength of character and determination to find and nurture the good in the world can still teach us important lessons today — and some of them were very young when they made their contribution. It is not likely that any of them envisioned at an early age the mark they would leave or the example they were setting. I have named four.

Please add to the list!

  • Anne Frank remained positive and caring in spite of having to live in secrecy and dread.
  • Eleanor Roosevelt fought for rights and recognition of underprivileged people of all creeds and nations.
  • Alice Robertson was elected to Congress in 1921 when the presence of women in elected office was unusual. She pressed for improvements in Muskogee and Oklahoma.
  • Wren Stratton, Mayor of Muskogee, continues to serve the city with humor, grace and determination as she has for many years.
