FIVE C’s OF CREDIT

A select group of 25 high school teenagers will be chosen to attend the 5th annual Youth Leadership Forum, June 17–21 at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.
Applications are accepted year-round; however, this year’s annual Intent to Apply form deadline is Feb. 1, and the official application is due March 9.
To be eligible, a student must be an Oklahoma resident returning to high school for the next school year as a junior or senior, and have a disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The week-long camp, sponsored by the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council, is a unique leadership training program with the goal of helping prepare the students for life after high school.

- the way they carry themselves, heads high and confident or heads down and looking a bit intimidated;
- the way they sing, some sing very well; others are having a good time regardless of how their voice sounds;
- the way they dress from very conservative in jeans and shirts to outrageous costumes;
- the things they say convey a lot about their values.
Just a few ways in which each person’s individuality is expressed but you get the picture. How would you dress, what would you say, how would you present yourself. For that matter, how do you?
Individuality. What does that mean?
I think that an individual is like a math formula. One divided by one = INDIVIDUAL
It sounds nice, but in reality it can be hard.
When I was in school a new student named Natalie showed up. She was beautiful. Long blond hair, tall. My friends and I noticed. I was skinny–really, really skinny–and it seemed like every one had passed me by in the body image department, so I noticed how pretty she was. But what I also noticed that she was really an amazing person.
We became friends.
But my other friends didn’t like her. They were jealous, and some of them did some really bad things to her. Things like knocking her books out of her hand when she was walking down the hallway. Spreading rumors. Writing bad stuff on the bathroom wall. (more…)
Individuality (our character, characteristics, and behavior) is the thing that sets us apart in this world of billions of people.
We have the choice to live our lives as we wish and behave as we wish. In exercising those choices, we should always keep in mind what image we convey. What we do, what we say, the choices we make today will show our character and individuality and influence our future in ways we cannot always know. Express the individuality you want to be known for.
Each of us were created for a special purpose. One that only we can fulfill. That’s why we are all uniquely different. Women throughout time have been instrumental in changing our world. Each of these women used their gifts and talents (individuality) to make a difference and to advance women.
The torch is now in our hands. What will we do to make the world a better place for generations to come?
